When choosing the applicable period for reports, there should be a checkbox for whether to automatically determine the best column setup:
Week should show daily columns
Month should probably show daily columns as well or maybe weeks.
Period should either always show aggregate totals only ("overview") or determine intelligently by selected range.
Quarter should show weekly columns or maybe months.
Year (I-1962) should show monthly columns or maybe quarters.
By the way, the whole menu left to the three-dot menu and Export buttton needs an UX overhaul.
