Possibility to search for issues in Log-Time via JQL-query

It would be a huge feature for our instance if we would be able to simply type in a JQL query to search for the correct issues.

I know it is possible to bind a filter to a tab and set the JQL for the filter, but it would be easier if we would be able to customize the JQL or write the JQL everytime from scratch so it fits our need.

For example if we want to search for a issue from another user via JQL something like this "status = work in progress and assignee = otheruser"
