Pull time from in progress jira states rather than human entry

As a development manager, I would like my team to avoid doing human time tracking, and instead use the time in "In Progress" jira states to calculate the time spent on tasks. I would like to use the Tempo functionality otherwise as is, but with the time coming from the statuses I have enabled. Currently I can pull this with a separate jira plug-in called Time In Status, but I would like the other functionality which Tempo offers.
