If plans would automatically become worklogs it would significantly reduce time spent to log work, and work would be logged more accurately: up-to-date data and correct issues + duration.
The user would only need to take action if the plans were not carried out as was planned, so only needing to make changes to eg. duration, dates..

It's almost impossible to log work on planned vacation in time, then when you're back from vacation period is locked. Probably vacation should be logged beforehand, once approved, but sometimes plans change, and it may be convenient to cancel further plans, with approval, probably, instead of deleting logged vacation.
